Mind Ability followers may not know this month’s artist 4SpeakersSake but they are soon to as their Limit EP gets released this Friday (24.02.12)

Let’s start with some basics then. One of you is from London and one from Greece. How did you guys meet and how did you begin 4SpeakersSake?

Classic: We meet through a mutual friend and after talking we realised we both had a passion for music sequencing and Djing. After a few studio sessions and some nights out our interests and ideas just combined and 4speakerssake was formed.

Theo: A common friend, who is a radio producer, introduced us about one year ago. We e-mailed each other and about two hours later we were already in the studio talking and listening to sounds. This happened a couple of times and the rest just followed naturally.

It's a great name by the way...What’s the story of 4SpeakerSake??

Classic: The name 4 Speakers Sake comes from the way we Dj together, I’m on the Hardware and Theo is on the software, the combination of the 4 channels we use and our creativity all coming through the speakers.... that’s how the name 4speakers Sake was formed.

Theo: Moreover, it shows that our sound is made for club speakers and they are made to play sounds like ours.

So do you guys focus more on London or do you try and spread your time between the UK and Greece?

Classic: We have done some great parties here in the UK and in Greece, last summer we were in Greece on Paros island and we will be back there this year again touring. Whilst we were there we got some great feedback and we are looking forward to returning.

Here in London we’ve also had an amazing response plsying st clubs such like Egg, Pacha and Ministry Of Sound headlining with some very big names.

Theo: Well, both of us live in London so this is our base, but we were in Greece during summer and had some great gigs there. We have already booked some gigs for next summer in Greek islands and also we do have plans for other cities in Europe.

Classic: Yeah looking forward you can expect to see alot from us as we both have networks in different places the possibilities are endless .....watch this space.

We know that the two of you have quite a bit of experience with electronic music so how and when you were first introduced to it?

Classic: I was introduced to music sequencing from the days of Cubas on an Atari ST (not giving my age away or nothing LOL), but then my skills developed more later on, gaining experience, working independently, building and running my own studio from a young age. I also recently completed my degree in Sonic Media, that covers Music Production and Sound Design for film. This degree has given me a qualification to enhance my previous knowledge. It’s great having these skills, I also do projects with the youth and kids with learning difficulties around the country and I am able to share skills in my mobile studio and services.

Theo: I started experimenting with and sampling sounds from various instruments many years ago (when I was recording bands). But it became really interesting for me when I started my studies with the Berklee College of Music through which I gained in depth knowledge about the technical aspects of music production.

How as a duo how do you organise performing together? Do you have set roles or does it always change?

Classic: We combined on the digital and hardware, constantly trying new things playing with the crowds energy & vibe, but make no mistake when you see us perform always expect something new and exciting.

Theo: Well, it depends on the gig... Our only set principle is to be creative, so we don't have set roles. Everytime, we discuss what we want to do and we try to be open minded and flexible and put in practice different ideas so as to be unique. The way we play music does not require us to have set roles, as we use alternate on the equipment.

So now you have a new EP coming out on Mind Ability....Can you tell us a bit about it?

Classic: I think this Ep is just a little teaser of things to come from us, the EP’s name ‘Limit’ and that just sums it all in one... there are none!! This collaboration with Mind Ability it’s the start of many big things to come.

Theo: First of all, we are very happy and excited for this EP as Mind Ability is known for its high quality releases. It is a label that fits us completely. The EP “Limit” includes two tracks “Fabriktion” and “Controller” When we started producing them we had in mind to produce “tools” useful for the progression of a live set. They are difference from other tracks is that they have “space” to add samples or loops on the fly. They “play” with the limits and aid any kind of transition... It depends on the Dj's perspective.

So when can people catch you next.....Where will be playing out next?

You can catch us down at the Egg on the 20th April and you can find out all our other dates by getting in touch on the links below.

Thanks guys it's been great catching up.

It was nice speaking guys we are honored for having us.... cheers.

Getting to know Fra P - A Year Ahead

Mind Ability followers will already be aware of this month’s artist... Fra P Cortese.

A year on from his release of “No Rush” Fra P returns to us with his first solo EP – “A Year Ahead”.

MAEP010 - Fra P - A Year Ahead EP Sampler by Mind Ability Records

We took a few minutes out to have a chat with Fra P before the release of his EP on the 31st October 2011

Great to have you here Fra P and let us quickly start by saying how happy we are to have you in our Mind Ability Family.

Let's start with some basics then you're from Gallipoli originally right?...So what brought you to London?

Hi! Yes I am originally from Gallipoli and since i first came to London I discovered my love for this city... The multicultural place where everything is possible...

The possibility to be different , to not care about what people think, to be free to choose ... that's what London offers .

And what would you say about the London scene compared to your native Italian one? Surely you must miss the beach parties and all those girls in bikinis?

Eheh for sure the seaside and the parties on the beach are a strong point of the Salento coast and I go there every summer to play in a few of the many beautiful beaches and clubs there.

The music scene is different in the winter time and there are not many parties while here it's party time all year round! (maybe because here there is not a real summer?).

So you have a new EP coming out.. Can you tell us a bit about it?

The new EP is the result of experimentation of Synths and rhythms ,blending strong basslines and deep melodies together ,generating a totally new sound .

I spent a long time before deciding which tracks could be the right ones for this EP. This record label that is growing incredibly also thank to you guys , I wanted to make sure I picked the right tracks for the EP. I knew when after listening to the tracks, I Had a big smile on my face and I said: "that's the right sound for Mind Ability!".

Your EP is called "A Year Ahead"... a Suggestive title, so can you tell us what has changed for you over the last year?

Musically speaking I’ve changed a lot and my studio has grown together with my personality :) .

My Music is not only assembling together sounds but it's the expression of my real character , is the alternative to talking, a different and more creative way to objectify my feelings.

We have been loving your latest podcast this week and it made us think how do you see Djing compared to production and playing Live? Do you have a preference for which you would rather do?

Fra P - Mind Ability October Podcast by Mind Ability Records

Djing is fun and i love it! As i said earlier music is personality and when you dj you are not only mixing tracks but you are mixing your creativity with others'.

Producing and doing live sets is a different interpretation of music, it is something completely yours, something authentic more than anything else.

I see djing and producing or doing live as a completely different jobs, but bothare fun and very attractive .

What about looking forward..What can we expect to see from Fra P over the next few months? We hear some rumours you are planning to do some videos as well.. Is this just a side project or something you can see yourself going into more?

You can expect a lot actually!

I am working on different projects at the moments, which include new EPs ,Remixes and Videos.

Yes videos... I love to make music for short or long movies as well and i am working on a few projects to make this idea grow.

Music is such a big field and it can be utilized in so many ways, also combined with other factors.

Well thanks for taking the time to chat to use Fra-p as always it has been a pleasure.

Remember you can catch Fra-p's Newest release due out on Mind Ability on the 31st of October and his latest remix just came out the Italian label Tarantula Records

Mario Reder Goes Mad This Summer

Photobucket

MAEP 004 - Cutty Sark Ep

Mario Reder

Originally from Naples, Mario Reader grew up playing piano and discovered electronic music when he was 16. He set up a small analog studio and moved to London in 2004, when he started playing at several parties around the city that never sleeps. In August 2009 Mario released “Frederik”, his first EP on the label Menomale records and In October 2009 He Releases Opposite Forces EP
on Minimal Force Records . Now Reder is on the talk again because of his recently released “Cutty Sark Ep” on the London based label Mind Ability records.

“Cutty Sark Ep” is a very serious piece of work which at the same time contains a big dose of humor. Mario Reder has the gift of creating versatile sounds and orquestrated atmospheres. The magnificence of his tunes balances with the funkyness of his rhythm, and for sure is bound to be a big “YES” on the dance floor this summer. The EP contains the original track from Mario Reder plus two other reamixes from Alex Kenji and Roby Mannarini.

The original Master and Commander is a straight to the businnes track: made for big dance floors the sound gets expanded around and fill up the space with strong beats. Perfectly able to work as a bomb in the after hours set or peak time, Master and Commander sounds like a classic tech house hype already!

Next to follow is the Alex Kenji remix. Keeping the same groove but taking away some of the vocals, Kenji makes a slightly retro approach to the original one. Horns and orquestra sounds seem to take us out for a trip on the Balkan countryside. The synths compress themselves into accordion movements, which give a very dynamic texture to the track.

In contrast to Alex Kinji, Roby goes a very different way by slowing up the tempo and adding out of the blue bass lines that makes you feel warm and tingly inside. It works. Percussions sound much more powerful and sexy, the atmospheric vocals and the synths love each other in harmony… Bravo Mannarini!

Exotic Beats For Etain On Mind Ability Records

Coffee EP sees Etain the London based world travelled producer/DJ return to mind ability with a certain finesse to her style.

With her recent venture on solid tracks ‘Ink Feet’ Etain brought it up a notch only to bring it down again and keep the crowd enticed in her ever evolving production style.
Her solo project brings out the versatile sound of tracks such as ‘Desiderio’, (her previous single on Mind Ability) that we all know and love, this is an exotic collection that makes a fine addition to the ‘Mind Ability’ Label and the ever changing world of minimal.

Java
A warm and summery work of crisp production, driving latin percussion, an underlying catchy synth line percolating effortlessly throughout only to yet deliver a well balanced baseline giving this track all the elements of pure diversity making it a perfect blend for all seasons.

Costa Rican
A bouncy Minimal Tech House track with a euphoric Latin percussive element building throughout, techy highs and a warm sensual bassline takes the groove through a pattern of evolution
constantly building and dropping, ‘truly seductive’ are the words that come to mind.

Costa Rican Decaf
Is a scaled-down tribal version with a reworked quirky percussion, toned down smooth bassline and catchy rhythm, making this track special, a soulful sunrise set filler for any crate.

Latin Grooves For Sub Secret on Mind Ability Records

A melodic Epic Ep by ‘Sub Secret’ Featuring ‘Fabricio’. Drawn from the inspiration of Hollywood movie soundtracks, ‘Para La Manana’ is a dedication to the writers of movie musical compositions that bind their childhood memories.

.“5AM” is a trumpet driven strumpet, that paces? its way through a stripped down off-step baseline that that terrorises the very foundation of the ground that you dance on. “Schizo?’clock”, the ?5AM remix? takes a lighter tone with playful Glockenspiel and horn melodies. A lovely warm bass wobble accompanies a strong kick and snare that create a blip and a skip in your step. “Que Dicas 5AM?”,the track by new up and coming talent Fabricio compliments the EP superbly with rolling snares, crisp Highs and a quirky vocal breaking into a delectable mexican guitar, which will really keep you jamming till 5AM.
